San Juan boys wrestling team competes at 2A Duels in Monroe

The San Juan Bronco boys wrestling team competed at the 2A Duels this past weekend in Monroe, UT.
Coming off the long holiday break, the Broncos faced a demanding slate of competition against some of the top teams in 2A.
San Juan opened the weekend against South Summit, a program that dropped from 3A to 2A this year and is expected to contend with traditional favorites Millard and Beaver.
South Summit proved too strong in the opening dual, defeating the Broncos 66-15. San Juan victories came from Grady Lacy and Miken Keith, both by fall, and Thomas Harden with a 16-9 decision.
The Broncos rebounded in their second dual, earning a 52-30 victory over South Sevier. Wins included Liam Lacy by forfeit, Grady Lacy, Miken Keith, Chance Laws, El’Myron Begay, and Thomas Harden all by fall; and River Von Haden with a 12-1 major decision victory.
Ender Lacy and Adney Singer also received forfeits but wrestled exhibition matches against other teams.
In the third dual, San Juan dominated North Sevier, winning 68-12. Kage Johnson earned a technical fall, while Liam Lacy, Ender Lacy, Staley Dandy, Jayce Raisor, Miken Keith, Thomas Harden, and Stan Jones had falls.
Grady Lacy picked up a forfeit. River Von Haden faced teammate Hunter Keith, who was competing for North Sevier, and secured a close 4-1 decision.
The Broncos then faced Beaver, falling 62-18. Kage Johnson and Jayce Raisor recorded the only wins, both by fall, while Liam Lacy won by forfeit.
San Juan closed pool competition with a hard-fought 42-34 win over North Summit. Victories by fall for Liam Lacy, Grady Lacy, Staley Dandy, Miken Keith, Jayce Raisor, El’Myron Begay, and Thomas Harden.
San Juan finished third in their division standings, behind Beaver and South Summit.
In crossover competition, the Broncos defeated American Leadership Academy 72-12. Kage Johnson, Grady Lacy, Ender Lacy, Koyer Johnson, Miken Keith, Chance Laws, Jayce Raisor, El’Myron Begay, and River Von Haden all won by fall.
San Juan then defeated Grand County 60-18. Grand’s lineup included several wrestlers from other schools, and team scoring was adjusted accordingly.
In the dual, Miken Keith and Chance Laws both earned wins over Millard wrestlers. El’Myron Begay pinned Everett Hill of Grand, while Thomas Harden and Grady Lacy also earned victories over Millard opponents.
In the third crossover dual, Millard defeated San Juan 67-9. Thomas Harden won 7-1 and Miken Keith had a second-period fall.
San Juan bounced back in crossover dual number four with a 63-18 win over Parowan. Wins by fall came from Liam Lacy, Grady Lacy, Koyer Johnson, Jayce Raisor, El’Myron Begay, River Von Haden, and Thomas Harden.
Chance Laws earned a 15-0 technical fall and Adney Singer picked up a 9-0 major decision.
In the final dual, San Juan defeated Kanab 54-29. Wins by fall for River Von Haden, Liam Lacy, Grady Lacy, Ender Lacy, Koyer Johnson, and Miken Keith.
On the varsity level, Kage Johnson was 3-7, Liam Lacy 4-2, Grady Lacy 7-2, Ender Lacy 3-7, Koyer Johnson 3-1, Staley Dandy 2-3, and Miken Keith 8-1, earning the 100th win of his high school career.
Chance Laws went 4-5, Jayce Raisor 5-5, El’Myron Begay 6-4, River Von Haden 5-4, and Thomas Harden 7-2. Adney Singer recorded four wins and Stan Jones earned two.
Hunter Keith and Ryus Blackhorse competed for other teams, winning matches and gaining experience.
The Broncos return to action on Thursday, January 8 to travel to Cedar City for a dual.
They finish the week at the Iron Town Duels in Cedar City on Friday and Saturday.
