San Juan girls basketball team looks to get back into win column as they head into state

Wins were a bit elusive for the San Juan High School girls basketball team in the homestretch of the regular season.
The Lady Broncos are on a six-game losing streak as they enter the 2A Utah State Tournament this week, and they lost nine of their last ten in the final month of the regular season.
Friday and Saturday, January 31 and February 1 they faced two of the best teams in Utah 2A girls basketball, suffering a 58-23 loss to #5 Duchesne and a 69-25 loss to #1 North Summit in Blanding.
This past Thursday, February 6 the girls closed out their regular season with a tough 59-39 loss to Grand County at home.
In those three games sophomore Jordan Jones came on strong to lead team scoring with 28 points. Kaidence Mitchell poured in 22 points, Hayden Shumway got 13, and Syndel Atcitty collected nine.
Khimya Fullwood scored eight points for the Lady Broncos in the three losses, Madi Adams got five, and Daveigh Mitchell two. Fullwood, the team’s leading scorer, was battling an injury for the past three games.
San Juan finished the regular season with a 6-16 record, ranked 18th in the 2A RPI standings. They were looking to get back in the win column when they opened the state tournament with a road trip to Spanish Fork on Tuesday, February 11 to take on #15 American Leadership Academy.
The game was played too late for the San Juan Record press deadline, but if the Lady Broncos were able to pull off an upset, they’ll hit the road again for a challenging matchup in the second round against #2 Kanab on Friday, February 14.
