San Juan girls battle hard, but suffers season-opening losses
The San Juan High School girls basketball team suffered two tough losses this past week to open the 2025-26 season.
On Tuesday, November 18 the Lady Broncos opened on the road against the Carbon Lady Dinos in Price. They trailed 8-3 after one quarter and 27-12 at halftime on the way to a 54-35 final.
Khimya Fullwood was the leading scorer for San Juan, dropping in 13 points. She also pulled down 12 rebounds to earn a double-double in the loss.
Kaidence Mitchell and Jordan Jones both hit six points apiece for San Juan while Madi Adams scored five, Brooklyn Lameman four, and Ella Stearns one.
Mitchell collected nine rebounds in the game, Jordan Jones got three, and Madi Adams pulled down two. Syndell Atcitty assisted on five San Juan buckets, and Fullwood registered three blocked shots.
San Juan was 35 percent from the floor and 44 percent from the free throw line. They were out-rebounded 45-33.
In game two of the season, at home this past Friday, November 21, the Lady Broncos fell behind again, and ultimately trailed by 15 in the fourth quarter before rallying to make it a close game in the end 51-47.
Fullwood scored an impressive 29 points for San Juan and pulled down 14 rebounds for her second double-double in as many games. Jordan Jones scored five points and Daveigh Mitchell netted four in the loss.
Evony Sampson and Kaidence Mitchell both poured in three points each for San Juan, Brooklyn Lameman got two, and Syndel Atcitty scored one.
Jordan Jones pulled down 11 rebounds for the Lady Broncos and Kaidence Mitchell got six. Madi Adams, Ella Stearns, and Syndel Atcitty all collected two boards apiece.
Atcitty had three assists in the game while Kaidence Mitchell, Khimya Fullwood, and Syndel Atcitty collected four, three, and two steals respectively.
The Lady Broncos shot under 30 percent from the field in the loss, at 29.8 percent (17-for-57), but they were a very respectable 12-for-21 from the free throw line for 57 percent.
San Juan won’t play again until after Thanksgiving. They’re scheduled to host Logan on Thursday, December 4.
