San Juan girls golf team opens season with road trips to Beaver, Mt. Carmel

The San Juan High School girls golf team is fifth in the Region 18 standings and tenth overall in the 2A standings following the first two matches of the season. The Lady Broncos have an average adjusted team score of 558.27.
The girls shot a 519 at the first event of the season at the Canyon Breeze Golf Course in Beaver on Tuesday, March 10. They finished in fourth place, eight strokes ahead of Parowan.
Jordan Jones led the way for San Juan with a 114, Ameillia Sopena hit 126, Ohla Krukovska shot a 127, and Sariah Sweetin rounded out the scoring positions with a 152.
This past Thursday, March 19 the Lady Broncos traveled to Mt. Carmel to play the Thunderbird Golf Course. They shot a 521, finishing in fifth place as a team.
Jordan Jones again led the way, this time with a solid 100. Ameillia Sopena carded a 121, Rose Kartchner came home with a 144, and Makayla Shumway hit 156.
Following the first two matches of the season Jordan Jones leads the team with a 112.32 adjusted average. Ameillia Sopena is second with a 131.75.
Ohla Krukovska is third for the team with a 124.87 average. Rose Kartchner is fourth with a 169.46, Sariah Sweetin is averaging 149.02 in fifth place, and Makayla Shumway is sixth with a 185.05.
San Juan started the current week with a match at the Millsite Golf Course in Ferron. That round was played after the San Juan Record print deadline.
