The San Juan High School girls soccer team added three more wins to their resume in the past two weeks, setting a new school record for most wins in a season in the process.
With victories over Enterprise on September 11 and 24 and one over Gunnison Valley this past Thursday, September 25 the Lady Broncos are 8-7 on the season, ranked 12th in the Utah 2A.
The team’s previous mark for most wins in a season was six, which they set last year. They are 6-4 against Region 18 opponents this season.
In addition to their wins in the past two weeks San Juan also suffered losses to Millard, Grand County, and Beaver, but remained above .500.
At home against Millard on September 9 Ari Adams scored, but the Lady Broncos fell by a final of 2-1. Brinley Jones scored both goals in the girls’ 2-0 win in Enterprise on September 11.
In a battle with local rival Grand County in Blanding on September 16 the Lady Red Devils scored two goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead.
San Juan scored to cut the deficit to one goal in the second half, but were unable to find the net for the tying goal, falling 2-1.
This past week the Lady Broncos played three games, winning two of them. In Beaver on Tuesday, September 23 San Juan was down 1-0 at halftime, but the Beavers netted four goals in the second half to earn a convincing 5-1 win. Oaysis Nielson scored the San Juan goal, assisted by Evie McCullough.
San Juan returned home where they bounced back for a nice 2-0 win over Enterprise, shutting out the Lady Wolves for the second straight time. Adams and McCullough were the goal scorers.
Then the Lady Broncos finished the past week out with a dominant 8-0 win over Gunnison Valley in Blanding on Thursday, September 25.
Ari Adams scored a hat trick with three goals in the win. Ellie Beck, Colee Crofts, Taverie Johnson, Nadiia Krukovska, and Oaysis Nielson all scored one goal apiece.
With just three games left in the regular season San Juan is poised to earn a spot in the second round of the 2A state championship on October 15.
They do have a tough few days coming up, however. They traveled to play South Sevier on Tuesday, September 30 after the San Juan Record print deadline.
They’ll finish the regular season on the road also, at Millard this Thursday, October 2 and at Grand County on Monday, October 6.
The Lady Broncos beat South Sevier in those teams’ first meeting this season but suffered losses to both Millard and Grand County.
