San Juan girls soccer team bounces back for two wins after tough week

After a 2-0 start to the season it was a challenging past two weeks for the San Juan High School girls soccer team.
The Lady Broncos suffered shutout losses to American Leadership Academy, Manti, Enterprise, and Parowan in that time, but bounced back for wins over Beaver and Gunnison Valley in the past week.
The team traveled to Beaver on Tuesday, August 25 to face the Lady Beavers in the first of two 2A South matchups between the teams this year.
It was a hard-fought battle with San Juan scoring two goals in the first half to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. Beaver answered with two goals in the second half and the Lady Broncos scored one, forcing overtime.
The game couldn’t be decided in the overtime period (also known as the Golden Goal or sudden death period), so it went to penalty kicks.
The first five kicks for each team are a best of five, and if the teams are still tied it goes kick-for-kick. That happened in the game against Beaver and it was ultimately Elli Beck punching in the game winner for San Juan.
Ari Adams paced the Lady Broncos with two goals in the win and Brooklyn Lameman scored the other. Colee Crofts stopped 18 of the 21 shots she faced.
Two days after their exciting victory over Beaver the girls returned home to host Gunnison Valley in another region contest, and that game was not near the nail-biter the previous game was.
San Juan scored three goals in the first half and added three more in the second to smoke the Lady Bulldogs 6-0. Adams netted two goals in the game, bringing her season total to ten.
She had some help though as San Juan spread the wealth. Jaynie McNaughtan, Brooklyn Lameman, Emrie Nielson, and Brooklyn Pincock all scored a goal apiece in the win. Colee Crofts earned her second shutout of the season.
Through the first eight games of the season the girls are 4-4 and are third in the 2A South standings behind Enterprise and Beaver.
They were set for two more region matches when the week began, with road trips to face 2-5 South Sevier on Tuesday, September 1 and 2-4 Millard on Thursday, September 3.
