The 2025 San Juan High School girls tennis team closed out their season at the Region 18 Championships in Moab on Monday, September 29.
The girls, many of whom were playing tennis for the first time this season, battled hard and improved throughout the year.
In the Region Championship the sophomore duo of Tea Whatcott and Lyric Williams took their Gunnison Valley opponents to a tiebreaker in set two, but ultimately fell in that match 6-3 in set one and 7-6 in set two.
In first singles junior Evony Sampson suffered a 6-1, 6-1 defeat to Lady Bulldog senior Bryler Blackburn.
In second singles play freshman Brooklynn Black lost to Grand County senior Sophia Black 6-0 and 6-0.
In third singles freshman Makayla Shumway fell to Grand County senior Kimber McCandless 6-0 and 6-0.
And in the first doubles bracket it was sophomore Isha LeValley and junior Sariah Sweeten suffering a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Brinlee Allgood and Toree Stevens of Millard.
Despite the tough results in the win/loss column this season sixth-year head coach Ciarra Walker said she was proud of all the girls and the effort they put forth all season long.
The team will work on their game in the offseason and look to come back even stronger in 2026.
