San Juan High tennis, golf, and soccer updates

The San Juan High School girls tennis team picked up their first win of the season, 4-1 over the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs in Blanding on Thursday, September 1. Following the victory the team played a busy week this past week.
They hosted the rival Grand County Red Devils on Tuesday, September 6, then traveled to Cedar City to take on Canyon View on Thursday, September 8, suffering 5-0 losses in both of those matches.
San Juan is 1-4 on the season, ranked eighth in the Region 12 standings according to MaxPreps.com.
Head coach Ciarra Walker says her players “are in good spirits” and playing well. Of the win at Gunnison Valley, she said, “Everyone played great and with confidence. Overall it was a great match.”
The Broncos will conclude their regular season this week with three home matches. On Tuesday, September 13 the team hosted Millard. They take on Emery and Carbon on Thursday, September 15.
The Region 12 Championship is set for Wednesday, September 21 in Richfield and Monroe, with the 2A state tournament coming up September 30 and October 1 at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.
Boys Golf
The San Juan boys golf team is also winding down their season following matches in Richfield, St. George, and Delta over the course of the past two weeks.
In Richfield on August 24 the Broncos took on host South Sevier at the Cove View Golf Course. Marty Clinger led the way with a 100-stroke outing. Jett Johnson was next in line with a 110 and Kaleb Johnson rounded out the top three with a 121.
Cooper Yoakam was right behind Johnson, scoring 123 on the day. Kavan Harris shot 133, Xavier Hancock got a 148, and Lachlan Lacy came home with a 156 to close out the round for the Broncos.
In St. George on August 31 San Juan took on the beautiful Red Hills Golf Course with Enterprise playing host to Region 19 foes.
Marty Clinger had his best round of the year by far, carding an 85 to pace the team. Trevin Palmer shot a solid 101 and Jett Johnson was right behind with a 103 to close out the Broncos top three.
Cooper Yoakam scored 112 on the day, Kaleb Johnson shot 131, Everett Nielson got a 138, Xavier Nielson scored 142, and Kavan Harris finished with a 144.
The Broncos traveled to Delta this past Tuesday, September 6 to play the Sunset Golf Course, but results were not available prior to the press deadline.
The team is down to just two matches to close out the regular season. They play at Beaver this Wednesday, September 14 then travel to Sterling, UT to shoot a round at the Palisade Golf Course on Tuesday, September 20.
The Region 19 Championship is set for September 27 once again at the Palisade Golf Course.
Girls Soccer
Information is pretty scarce on the 2022 edition of the San Juan High School girls soccer team, but we can report that the season is underway.
The Broncos have played one game, an 8-0 loss to Millard on Tuesday, September 6 in Blanding. They’re ranked tenth in the 2A RPI standings released this week by the Utah High School Activities Association.
San Juan was scheduled to face Beaver on the road on Tuesday, September 13. They’ll come home to take on Gunnison Valley on Thursday, September 15.
