San Juan, Monticello, Whitehorse runners compete in Stewart Foster Invitational

Local cross country racers participated in the Stewart Foster Cross Country Invitational at Huntington State Park on Monday, September 8.
The San Juan boys ran away with the team championship with an impressive 11 Bronco runners finishing in the top 20. Monticello finished second in the team race and Whitehorse was sixth.
Rosendo Martine led the way for San Juan, covering the 3.1-mile course in 16:48 to finish second overall. He was followed by teammate Platte Lyman who was third in 17:33.
Jareden Hurst, Jack Kartchner, and Keegan McCullough also finished in the top ten. Teammates in the top 20 included James Gosney, Noah Begay, Oren Bradford, Peter Lyman, and Ethan Francom.
Ethan Begay of Whitehorse was the fourth overall finisher, covering the course in 17:43.
Sophomore Eli Carling was the top athlete for the Monticello Buckaroos, finishing fifth overall in 17:43. Kooper Nielson followed in seventh, with Charlie Welch and Linden English in the top 25.
The overall winner of the girls race was also from San Juan. Junior Sincere Nez covered the course in 20 minutes to claim the top spot on the podium.
Teammate Ada Lyman was fifth followed by Harmony Oshley, Braylyn Eddie, and Rose Kartchner as the Lady Broncos finished second in the team standings.
Whitehorse earned a fourth-place team result led by junior Kerrie Martin’s second-place overall performance in 20:57. She was joined by teammates Laylah Benally in 11th and Maria Yellowman in 15th overall.
The Monticello girls took fifth place in the team race led by Allie Carling in sixth overall (22:55). She was followed by Xymenah Alvarado in 16th, Mikaylah Gillette in 17th, and Brenna Baxter 23rd.
