San Juan softball team up to fourth place after 2A Central wins

The San Juan High School softball team bounced back from a tough doubleheader sweep to Duchesne on March 29 with three easy wins over Monticello and North Sevier this past week.
On Tuesday, April 2 the Lady Broncos welcomed their local rivals to town for a 2A Central showdown on the San Juan softball diamond.
San Juan scored 11 runs in the first inning and nine in the second to mercy-rule the Lady Buckaroos 20-0 in three innings. Monticello did muster one hit to break up Trinity Whatcott’s no-hitter bid. She struck out seven batters in the victory.
Madden Perkins hit her first home run of the season and drove in four San Juan runs. Elise Dalley got one hit and two RBIs. And Khatira Keith got a hit and an RBI. Khimya Fullwood and Averie Gilson also earned one RBI apiece in the win.
The Lady Broncos stole seven bases against the Lady Bucks. Synessa and Syndel Atcitty both got two apiece. Madden Perkins, Lizzie Palmer, and Keegan Palmer all collected one each.
Dalley led the team defensively with seven putouts. Colee Crofts, Syndel Atcitty, and Trinity Whatcott retired one Monticello runner each.
On Friday, April 5 San Juan hosted North Sevier in a 2A Central doubleheader, and neither of those games went the distance either. The Lady Broncos scored 14 runs in the bottom of the third to take game one 20-2.
Perkins got another homer in the win, her second of the season, and once again drove in four runs, this time with three hits total. Khatira Keith also collected four RBIs with one hit in the game.
Dalley and Whatcott both got three RBIs each, Dalley with two hits and Whatcott with one. Gilson got two hits and drove in one run. Morgann McPherson, Synessa Atcitty, and Sadie Cosby all got one hit and one RBI apiece.
Madden Perkins stole two bases in the win while Averie Gilson and Maddyn Olsen got one each. Dalley once again led the team with seven putouts in the field. Gilson and Cosby got one apiece.
Whatcott got the win again on the mound for the Lady Broncos, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out seven and walking two in three innings of work.
In game two San Juan scored ten runs in the first inning and 12 in the second to mercy-rule the Lady Wolves 22-6 in three innings again.
This time Khatira Keith got the win, allowing just three earned runs on only one hit. She struck out three North Sevier batters but walked five.
Whatcott drove in an impressive five runs for San Juan at the plate, collecting three hits in the process, including a double. Averie Gilson hit a single, a double, and a triple and registered two RBIs in the win.
Madden Perkins, Elise Dalley, and Sadie Cosby all got two hits and one RBI apiece. Khimya Fullwood and Lizzie Palmer both got one hit and drove in one run each.
The Lady Broncos stole eight bases in the win: three for Madden Perkins; two for Morgann McPherson; and one each for Kadience Mitchell, Synessa Atcitty, and Lizzie Palmer.
San Juan improves to 6-3 on the season with the wins and is up to fourth in the 2A RPI standings. They faced the #9 Grand County Lady Red Devils on Tuesday, April 9 after the San Juan Record print deadline.
It’s going to be an exceptionally busy weekend for the Lady Broncos with five games on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13. On Friday they’ll travel to Gunnison for a region doubleheader with #11 Gunnison Valley.
Saturday they’ll face #5 Altamont, #1 Enterprise, and 5A #5 Salem Hills in the Payson Icebreaker at the Gene Hillman Recreation Complex in Payson, UT.
