The San Juan High School softball team is holding their own in the 2A RPI standings as they head into the last few games of the season. With a 7-9 overall record they sit in the #9 spot in the classification.
After an eight-day hiatus, the Broncos headed to Salt Lake City this past Saturday, April 16 to play in the Swing for Life tournament, an annual fundraiser that benefits breast cancer victims.
San Juan did very well facing larger opponents over the weekend, including three teams from the 6A classification. They lost to West and Hunter, but bounced back for nice wins over Granger 9-8 and Rowland Hall 14-4.
In the Granger game, the Broncos trailed 8-5 headed into their final half-inning and scored four runs to stun the Lancers. Then they dominated the Winged Lions on the way to their seventh win of the season.
It’s hard to believe, but the girls are headed into the final six games of their regular season, and they’ll play three of those this weekend. Also, they’ll play five of those six games in the friendly confines of their home field.
They host the Duchesne Eagles in a 2A Central doubleheader this Friday, April 22. Duchesne is 15-6 on the season coming into the week and the top-ranked team in the 2A ranks.
On Saturday, April 23 the Broncos welcome Grand County to Blanding for a local rivalry showdown. The Red Devils have had San Juan’s number this season, beating them in the teams’ previous two meetings in March.
They’ll face #17 North Summit in the last week of the regular season, and close out the season with one final matchup against Grand County.
