San Juan track team takes eighth in Delta, preps for annual BYU Invite

The San Juan High School track and field team traveled to Delta, UT on Saturday, April 27 to compete in the 2024 Signature Real Estate - Delta High School Invitational.
The boys team scored 55 points to finish sixth among the 13 teams in attendance while the girls scored eight points to finish 12th. Combined the Broncos were eighth with 63 total points.
San Juan didn’t return home with any individual championship medals, but Bronco athletes took second place in three of their respective events.
Brigham Nielson was the runner up in the boys 300-meter hurdles with a speedy time of 41.38, which was just half a second off the winning time.
Keaton Ivins was second in the boys long jump with a 21-foot performance, only five inches short of the championship jump.
And the boys sprint medley team of Abe Lyman, Josiah LaPalmer, Lynnox Benn, and Jagger Nieves crossed the line in 3:58.35 to take second in that race.
Tripp Palmer brought a third-place medal home in the high jump when he cleared the bar at six feet, two inches. Brigham Nielson took third in the 110-meter hurdles with a blistering 15.94, just .34 off the winner’s pace.
And the boys 4x100 relay team of Lynnox Benn, Brigham Nielson, Josiah LaPalmer, and Jagger Nieves was also third with a time of 46.14.
Brigham Nielson finished fifth in the boys 200-meter dash with a time of 23.72. Jared Burke took fifth in the shot put with a 42 foot, ten inch effort.
Reaghan Laws came home fifth in the girls 400 meter when she crossed the line in 1:05.94. And the girls 4x100 team of Sadie Black, Addi Helquist, Reaghan Laws, and Sadie Palmer was fifth in 57.07.
Tripp Palmer was seventh in the long jump with his solid distance of 19 feet, 7.5 inches. And Jagger Nieves rounded out the point-scoring positions for the Broncos when he came home eighth in the 100-meter dash with his time of 11.61.
The San Juan teams will close out their regular season this weekend at the annual PACS BYU Invitational Friday and Saturday, May 3-4.
The Region 15 Championship is next Tuesday and Wednesday, May 7-8 in Salina with the 2024 2A Utah State Meet set for May 16-18 in Provo.
