After suffering losses in six of seven matches heading into the final week of the regular season the San Juan High School volleyball team returned to form with two wins in the past week.
The Lady Broncos swept the rival Grand County Lady Red Devils on October 22 in the final game of the regular season, then swept the Waterford Lady Ravens in the first round of the 2A Utah State Tournament on October 26.
Against Grand the team won 25-19, 25-19, and 25-14. Morgann McPherson led with ten kills, Keezie Flannery assisted on 26 points, and Averie Gilson served five aces and had 14 digs. Madi Adams, Madden Perkins, and Lizzie Palmer had three blocks each in the win.
Against Waterford the Lady Broncos won easily 25-14, 25-10, and 25-13. McPherson had 13 kills, Flannery collected 29 assists, Miley Harrison served four aces, and Gilson had 11 digs. Flannery and Perkins got two blocks apiece.
Ninth-seeded San Juan is gearing up for a tough second-round matchup with #8 St. Joseph as the 2A state tournament shifts to the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield this Friday, November 1.
The Lady Broncos and Lady Jayhawks have not met this season but they do have four common opponents and have performed identically against all of them.
Both teams lost to Panguitch this season and both beat American Leadership Academy, Rich, and Waterford. It should be an exciting match between two closely-ranked teams.
The game is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 1 at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.
A link to watch the Lady Broncos live will be available on the Utah High School Activities Association website. Go to uhsaa.org/tournaments for full details.
