The San Juan High School volleyball team is on fire through the first third of the season. They began the year with wins over Uintah and Union on August 7 and 8 before suffering a straight-sets loss to North Sanpete in the opening game of the Richfield Rallies Tournament August 15.
Since then the Lady Broncos haven’t lost a single set, rattling off wins over Millard, Carbon, Kirtland Central, and Kanab in the past couple weeks and are 6-1 on the year.
Morgann McPherson’s 95 kills not only leads the team, it’s currently eighth-most among players in all classifications in the state of Utah. Keezie Flannery has 201 assists so far this season, which currently ranks fourth in the state.
Flannery also has the most serving aces among all players in Utah at 29 and counting. Freshman Faith Flannery leads the team with 13 blocks.
Averie Gilson and McPherson have collected 76 digs apiece so far this season. And in addition to McPherson’s kills, Faith Flannery has 42 on the year while fellow freshman Kyliea Taylor has 31.
The Lady Broncos have begun to build some real momentum with their experienced team and will look to continue building in the coming weeks.
They’ll play one game this week, at home against Miyamura, NM on Thursday, August 28. It will be just the second game of the year for the Lady Patriots.
Next week the team will open Region 18 play at home against two tough opponents – the Enterprise Lady Wolves on Thursday, September 4 and the Beaver Lady Beavers on Friday, September 5.
