San Juan volleyball team opens season with back-to-back wins

The San Juan High School volleyball team got their season underway this past week with an impressive two-game sweep on the road.
First, on Thursday, August 7 the Lady Broncos downed 4A Uintah in Vernal 3-1. The Lady Broncos suffered a 25-23 first set loss, but swept the Lady Utes from that point 25-19, 25-12, and 28-26.
The following afternoon, Friday, August 8, San Juan stopped in Roosevelt on their way home to take on Union, who play in the 3A classification.
In a hard-fought battle, the Lady Broncos took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-18. The Lady Cougars rallied to win the next two sets 25-20 and 25-16, forcing a fifth and final set.
San Juan shut down the Union rally, taking the set 15-10, and the match 3-2, improving to 2-0 on the young season.
The Lady Broncos are gearing up for a trip to Richfield this Friday and Saturday, August 15-16 to play in the Richfield Rallies Tournament.
They’re set to take on North Sanpete on Friday, then Millard and Carbon Saturday.
The girls continue a busy season-opening slate the following week when they welcome Kirtland Central to Blanding on Tuesday, August 19. They’ll hit the road again on Friday, August 22 for a match in Kanab against the Lady Cowboys.
