San Juan volleyball team splits games on week

The San Juan High School volleyball team split games this past week, losing to Enterprise on Thursday, September 4 but sweeping Beaver on Friday, September 5.
The Lady Broncos are 8-2 overall and 2-1 in Region 18 play. The Utah High School Activities Association will be releasing the first 2A RPI standings this Wednesday, September 10.
San Juan took Enterprise to the wire Thursday in Blanding, forcing five sets against the team that’s predicted to finish third in the Utah 2A this season.
The Lady Wolves had San Juan on the brink of a sweep with 26-24 and 25-16 wins in the opening two sets of the match, but the Lady Broncos rallied to dominate set three 25-11, then earned a hard-fought 25-22 win in the fourth.
The fifth and deciding set was a battle from start to finish with Enterprise hanging on for a 15-13 win. Despite the loss, San Juan got a number of outstanding performances in the match.
Morgann McPherson and Faith Flannery led the offensive charge with 21 and 14 kills respectively. The duo had lots of help from Keezie Flannery, who assisted on 36 San Juan points.
Keezie Flannery also performed well behind the baseline, delivering seven aces on the night while Keegan Palmer collected three aces and Averie Gilson earned one.
Palmer served 95 percent in the loss, Flannery served 93 percent, and Gilson got a 92.9. Defensively McPherson dug 23 Enterprise hits and Gilson had 20 digs.
Madi Adams, Faith Flannery, and Havoc Laws all blocked two Emery hits apiece. Gilson received 39 Lady Wolves serves and McPherson received 27.
On Friday, September 5 the Lady Broncos were not kind hosts to Beaver, downing the Beavers 56-17. They dominated the first set 25-5 then won the second and third sets 25-18 and 25-19.
Freshman Faith Flannery and senior Morgann McPherson teamed up to score eight kills apiece on the night. Havoc Laws had seven and Adi Ivins and Keezie Flannery had four each.
Keezie Flannery added 26 assists to her already massive season collection. Keegan Palmer served up four aces to the Lady Beavers. Flannery got three aces while Gilson and Laws served two apiece.
McPherson led San Juan with 16 digs in the win while Averie Gilson got ten, Keegan Palmer eight, Keezie Flannery six, Adi Ivins five, Madi Adams three, Laws with one and Faith Flannery with one.
Madi Adams blocked three Beaver hits with Keezie Flannery blocking one. Gilson received 13 Lady Wolves’ serves while McPherson received nine, Keegan Palmer six, Adi Ivins three, and Madi Adams one.
The Lady Broncos will hit the road this weekend to take on Parowan Friday, September 12 and South Sevier on Saturday, September 13.
They’ll face the rival Grand County Lady Red Devils in Moab on Tuesday, September 16. Parowan is 9-4 on the season, South Sevier is 7-5, and Grand County is 2-7.
