San Juan wrestlers finish fourth, send 16 to state

The San Juan High School wrestling team came home from their 2A divisional wrestling tournament in Salina this past weekend with a fourth-place finish and all 16 wrestlers who competed are headed to the state tournament.
Callen Burke won an individual divisional championship at 215 pounds for the Broncos at North Sevier High School on January 29, prompting Assistant Coach Shane Musselman to say, “What can you say about Super Junior Callen? He misses half the season due to a broken arm from football and has done nothing but win since his return.”
Two San Juan wrestlers came up just short of divisional titles, finishing in second place. Landon Black  earned runner-up honors at 150 pounds and Taylor Black also accomplished that feat at 285.
No less than five Broncos brought home third-place results, including DeKlan Helquist at 113 pounds, JD Palmer (138), Trace Bennett (157), Tayden Mark (165), and Chance Hoggard (285).
Logan Kieth (at 144 pounds), Tyler Winn (157), and Zach Palmer (175) all earned fourth-place results for San Juan.
Lynnox Benn (126) and Tyler Bayles (165) both finished in sixth place. Nick Joe (126) got seventh. Tarren Bayles (113) and Treshon Billie (120) came home in eighth place.
The 16 Bronco wrestlers who are headed to state will have a week to get ready. They will compete for state titles at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield Friday and Saturday, February 11-12.
