Season begins in Dolores for Whitehorse cross country team

The Whitehorse High School cross country teams opened their season at the Boggy Draw Bear Chase in Dolores, CO this past Saturday, August 23.
The boys team finished in fourth place powered by a very strong third-place run from junior Elam Etsitty. He crossed the line in 19:33.88, just 34 seconds behind race winner Platte Lyman of San Juan.
Ethan Begay was the second-fastest Raider when he came home 20th overall in 21:19.39. Hyatt Thomas was 35th among the boys with his 23:40.54 run.
Lance Tsinigine came home 51st in 26:21.91, rounding out the top four scoring positions for Whitehorse.
Two other Raiders finished the race for the boys team: Riley Benallie was 60th overall in 29:14.88 and Brayden John was 12 seconds behind in 61st.
The Whitehorse girls team finished fifth just one point behind fourth-place Bayfield. Keiarra Martin began her junior season with a seventh-place performance on the tough 5K course, crossing the line in 23:35.97.
Senior Hannah Clark was 18th overall with a run of 27:36.32. Maria Yellowman finished 20th in 28:41.82 and Mikey Little came home 28th for the Whitehorse girls in 32:31.78.
The Whitehorse cross country teams will join a host of other local teams in Monticello this Friday, August 29 for the annual Loyds Lake Classic.
