SJ tennis, golf, soccer in home stretch

The San Juan High School girls tennis team concluded their season with a seventh-place finish in the Region 12 Championship in Richfield and competition in the first round of the state tournament in Murray.
On Wednesday, September 21 the Broncos competed against tough Region 12 opponents on the tennis courts of Richfield and South Sevier high schools in Richfield and Monroe, coming home seventh as a team.
Senior Kamora Mitchell led the way for the girls with a two-set win in her first round second singles match against Ruby McGowan of Grand County.
Mitchell made it to the semifinals before being defeated by Harper Smith of Richfield, finishing fourth for San Juan.
The brackets for the first round of the 2A state tournament were released on Friday, September 23, and the entire varsity team had qualified to play.
On Saturday, September 24 the team headed to Murray High School in Murray looking to shock the 2A girls tennis world.
Though they didn’t come away with any victories, Bronco Head Coach Ciarra Walker reports that the girls “played exceptionally well against some very tough competitors.”
Congratulations to Coach Walker and all the San Juan girls tennis players on an excellent 2022 season.
Boys Golf
Jett Johnson led the San Juan High School boys golf team with a 121 at the Region 19 Championship at Palisades Golf Course in Sterling, UT this past Tuesday, September 20.
The Broncos finished sixth as a team in the region. Cooper Yoakam was right behind Johnson with a 127 on the day. Xavier Hancock shot a 140. Spencer Gosney carded a 143 for the team, Kavan Harris got a 146, and Lachlan Lacy shot 154.
These six players are all headed to the 2A state tournament which will be played at the Mountain View Golf Course in West Jordan next Wednesday and Thursday, October 5-6.
Girls Soccer
The San Juan High School girls soccer team is 0-5 ranked 15th in the 2A RPI standings with four matches remaining in the regular season.
Over the course of September the Broncos have suffered losses to Beaver, Gunnison, South Sevier, and twice to Millard.
The girls will close out their regular season with matches at Parowan September 27, versus Beaver September 29, at Grand September 30, and versus South Sevier October 6.
San Juan will travel for the first round of the 2A state tournament, set to begin on Wednesday, October 12.
