Strong showings for San Juan, Monticello, Whitehorse track and field teams in Price

The San Juan High School track and field team scored 95 combined points to finish fifth in the Eastern Utah Championships at Carbon High School in Price on Friday, April 19. The girls were third with 72 points and the boys team took sixth with 23 points.
The Monticello boys scored 17 points and the girls collected eight for a combined 26 points and a ninth-place result. The Whitehorse teams combined for ten points and came home 11th in the event.
There were four individual champions among athletes representing the county. Edward Lyman won the 800 and 3200 for San Juan while Tripp Palmer took the high jump title. And Monticello’s Nial Reay won the boys discus.
Runner-up finishes for San Juan included Brigham Nielson in the 300-meter hurdles, Keaton Ivins in the long jump, and Keezie Flannery in the high jump.
Brigham Nielson took third in the 110 hurdles and the Bronco team of Nielson, Stetson Black, Lynnox Benn, and Zack Conway was third in the boys 4x100 relay. Savannah Richmond had a solid fourth-place effort in the girls discus.
There were several fifth-place results on the day: The Monticello boys in the 4x100, the Whitehorse boys in the 4x400, Jared Burke (SJHS) in the boys shot put, Ayla Carling (MHS) in the girls 1600 and 3200, and the San Juan girls in the 4x100.
Zack Conway was sixth in the 200 meter and Tripp Palmer was sixth in the boys javelin for San Juan. Seventh-place finishers included Soren Welch (MHS) in the boys 400, Keaton Ivins (SJHS) in the high jump, Sincere Nez (SJHS) in the girls 1600 and 3200, and Savannah Richmond (SJHS) in the shot put.
The Whitehorse boys came home seventh in the 4x100 and sprint medley relays. The Whitehorse girls took seventh in the 4x100. And Jesse Pettit was eighth for Monticello in the boys 3200 meter.
There’s no rest for the weary as the teams hit the homestretch of the season. Monticello and Whitehorse are competing in the Emery Spartan Invitational in Castledale on Wednesday, April 24.
Whitehorse will travel to Mancos, CO on Friday, April 26 for the Bluejay Invitational. San Juan has the Delta Invite on Saturday, April 27.
