Tough week for San Juan girls basketball against 3A opponents

The San Juan High School girls basketball team was riding a three-game winning streak as they entered the past week. They had faced three 3A opponents in their opening week, picking up wins against two of them.
On Tuesday, December 3 they welcomed yet another 3A opponent to the SJHS gym – the tough Manti Lady Templars. The Lady Broncos had their hands full right from the start, falling behind 20-6 after one quarter.
Manti continued to increase their lead as the game went along, up to 33-14 at halftime, 54-24 after three quarters, and ultimately 65-31 at the end of the game.
Kaidence Mitchell led scoring for San Juan with 11 points. Hayden Shumway added nine points, Madi Adams got six, Khimya Fullwood scored four, and Syndel Atcitty rounded out the scoring with one point.
San Juan pulled down 30 rebounds in the loss. Mitchell got nine, Fullwood seven, and Atcitty five. Shumway, Adams, and Macee Palmer all collected three boards apiece.
Adams hit both of the Lady Broncos’ three-point baskets in the loss. Daveigh Mitchell led the team with three assists. Fullwood had two while Atcitty and Macee Palmer got one each.
On Thursday, December 5 San Juan traveled to Castle Dale to face Emery in the Lady Broncos’ fifth game against a 3A opponent this season. The Lady Spartans dominated from start to finish in a tough 63-9 final.
Following the past week’s action San Juan is 3-3 on the year. They opened this week with a matchup against Montezuma-Cortez in Blanding on Tuesday, December 10.
They’ll host Panguitch on Friday, December 13 at 7 p.m., then they’ll host Bryce Valley on Saturday, December 14 at 1 p.m. Catch the Saturday game live on StreamUtah.Live starting at 12:30.
