The 1A Utah basketball regular season is in the books, and the six San Juan County teams are looking forward to the playoffs.
Leading the way amongst local teams are the #6 seed Whitehorse Raiders, who finished the season with a 17-5 record and region champions, going 8-0 in Region 19 play.
The Lady Raiders closed out the season with a 72-61 win at home on February 12 to secure the region title and the Drum over the Monument Valley Cougars.
The night also included recognition of senior players as well as junior Kerri Martin who scored her 1,000th high school career point earlier in the month.
The Raiders will host #11 seed Milford in the first round of the tournament on February 21, with a tentative tip time of 1:00 pm.
The Monument Valley girls and the Monticello boys teams both earned the tenth seed in their respective state tournaments.
Monument Valley finished the season with a record of 14-9 and were runners-up in Region 19. They’ll travel to play #7 Valley on February 21.
The Monticello boys were also Region 19 runners-up, finishing the season with a 12-10 record. The Buckaroos hosted #23 Dugway on February 17 after the San Juan Record print deadline. Assuming they won, they will head to Green River to play the #7 Pirates on February 20 at 7:00 pm.
The Whitehorse boys closed the regular season as the #13 seed in the state tournament with a 9-13 record and hosted #20 Mount Vernon on February 17 after the San Juan Record print deadline.
A win for the Raiders in that game would mean a trip to play #4 Manila in the second round February 20 at 7:00 p.m.
The Monticello girls are 17th in the 1A girls tournament after going 7-16 on the season. The Lady Bucks travel to take on the #16 Water Canyon Wildcats on Wednesday, February 18 at 5:00 p.m.
A win for Monticello would lead to a showdown with the #1 Panguitch Bobcats on February 21 at 1:00 p.m.
The Monument Valley boys earned the #22 seed with a 4-19 record and traveled to Tintic on February 17 after the San Juan Record print deadline.
If the Cougars were able to muster an upset over the Miners, they would travel to play #6 Bryce Valley on February 20.
