Whitehorse and Monument Valley wrestling teams compete in Monticello, Page

The Whitehorse and Monument Valley high school wrestling teams spent a lot of time together this past week. They both competed in Monticello on Wednesday, January 17 then concluded the week at the Sand Devil Classic in Page, AZ Friday and Saturday, January 19-20.
In Page the Whitehorse wrestlers scored 16 points to finish 21st in the team standings. The Raiders had just five athletes competing and four of them won a match apiece.
Riley Benallie, Landin Clark, Kyle Todechene, and Lucas Collins were all 1-2 on the weekend with all of their wins by fall. Though he was unable to register a victory, Dante Silas wrestled well for Whitehorse.
With just two wrestlers in Page, Monument Valley did not register any points, but both Jerious Clark and Jace Tsosie represented the team well and battled hard from start to finish.
Records are incomplete from the teams’ event in Monticello this past Wednesday, but the matches against the host Buckaroos were recorded.
Landin Clark was victorious over Caleb Coleman in an 8-4 decision for Whitehorse and Shayden Fatt defeated Cruise Shumway by fall for Monument Valley.
The season is winding down for both teams. They’ll join Grand County for a quad at San Juan High School on Wednesday, January 24 to close out the regular season.
The teams will hit the road in earnest to begin the postseason with the 1A Divisional Tournament at Altamont High School on Saturday, January 27.
