Whitehorse basketball teams beat Red Mesa, boys play in 1A Preview

The Whitehorse High school boys and girls basketball teams defeated rival Red Mesa last week before the boys traveled to take on stiff competition at the 1A Preview in Richfield.
The Lady Raiders earned a victory over Red Mesa on December 5, building an 8-5 lead after one quarter before stretching it to 24-19 at halftime. Whitehorse just kept winning quarters, increasing their lead to 38-29 after three quarters before winning the game by a final score of 51-39.
The Raider boys defeated Red Mesa 53-41 in a stateline battle on December 5. The team trailed 12-8 after one quarter, but made up some ground to trail just 20-17 at halftime.
The Raiders took the lead 37-35 after three quarters and pushed that lead further for the 53-41 victory.
Whitehorse was led in scoring by senior Lyric Phillips who finished the game with 27 points including four threes. Fellow senior Larenz Tsosie scored 11 with Tristan Black scoring ten.
Dominic Dance added three free throws while Adam Joe had two points in the win.
The Raiders made the trip to Richfield for the annual 1A Utah Boys Basketball Preview at the Sevier Valley Center over the weekend.
In their December 8 game, Whitehorse had a one-point lead at halftime over Maeser Prep Academy, but the Lions rallied in the second half to hand the Raiders a 51-45 loss.
Whitehorse suffered another loss on Saturday to Valley 61-47.
The Raider boys are now 2-4 on the season while the girls have a 3-3 record. Both teams next play at Navajo Pine on December 13, the girls then play at San Juan on December 14 with the boys traveling to Chinle on December 21.
