Whitehorse boys take ninth, girls are 15th in 1A state wrestling tournament

The Whitehorse High School boys wrestling team placed ninth at the 1A State Championship this past Saturday, February 14 in Richfield, advancing two wrestlers to the championship finals.
At 144 pounds, Lance Tsinigine reached the championship match after earning a 15-0 technical fall in the quarterfinals and a 12-2 major decision in the semifinals. In the finals, he fell in the third period to finish as state runner-up, ending his season 28-6.
Hunter Tsinigine also advanced to the championship match, earning a quick fall in the quarterfinals and another first-period fall in the semifinals. In the finals, he fell to his Altamont opponent, finishing as state runner-up with a 24-11 record.
Other Raiders competing included Devante Silas (150), who earned a victory by fall before elimination, and Beau Holmes (heavyweight), who dropped a thrilling consolation match in the final seconds.
The Whitehorse girls wrestling team placed 15th in the tournament, with three of four wrestlers reaching the podium.
At 135 pounds, Katie Whitehair competed in one of the tournament’s toughest brackets but was eliminated after her first two matches.
Rayauna Lee (110) earned a sixth-place finish, securing one win by fall before falling in the fifth-place match in the closing seconds.
Shandiin Roberts (190) secured fifth place after earning back-to-back falls in consolation rounds two and three. In the fifth-place match, Roberts pinned her South Sevier opponent in the first period.
Mikey Little (105) had an outstanding tournament. After a first-period fall in the quarterfinals, she fell to the eventual state champion in the semifinals.
Little rebounded with another first-period fall in the consolation semifinals before earning a second-period fall in the third-place match over her Altamont opponent. Little’s third-place finish was the highest placement for the Lady Raiders.
