Whitehorse girls pick up win to make quarterfinals at state tournament

The #7 seed Whitehorse girls opened the tournament on February 28 earning a 51-44 victory over #10 seed Valley.
The Raiders were led in scoring by Heidi Clark, who finished with 16 points, LaMyia Benally scored nine and Keira Chee scored eight while Kayla Mitchell scored seven points.
Harmony Thomas scored four, Shunbaah Begay had three and Keiarra Martin and Kadence Lansing each score two in the win.
The Lady Raiders then played the #2 seed and eventual state-champion Panguitch Bobcats on February 29. The Raiders battled but were defeated 53-36.
Whitehorse was led in scoring by senior Shunbaah Begay, who had 12 points. Benally and Kayla Mitchell each had five points. Thomas and Chee each scored four points with Alyssa Eltsosie, Heidi Clark and Martin each scoring two points.
Benally also pullled down five rebounds, with Shunbaah Begay credited with eight steals in the game.
In consolation play, Whitehorse was defeated 62-61 against the Piute Thunderbirds in a heartbreaking final inbound play for a Thunderbird shot at the basket with two seconds remaining. Piute went on to finish 5th place in the tournament.
The Raiders were led in the game by Shayla Miller who finished with 12 points, with Begay and Benally scoring 11 and Heidi Clark adding 10.
Mitchell added five points with Martin and Thomas scoring four and Dakotah Cly and Chee each scoring two points.
Harmony Thomas grabbed 12 rebounds for the Raiders, with Heidi Clark recording six steals and Shunbaah Begay getting five. Lamyia Benally and Keirra Martin each had two assists in the game.
The Lady Raiders finished the season with a 16-8 record and will return most of its players as they bid a fond farewell to seniors Shunbaah Begay, Laila Etsitty, and Kadence Lansing.
