Whitehorse Lady Raiders start season 1-1 after long road trip
he Whitehorse girls basketball team opened the season with a road trip to northern Utah going 1-1 to start the season.
The lady Raiders earned their first win of the season on Thursday November 20 at Altamont by a score of 41-22.
Whitehorse trailed 12-11 after one quarter but the Raiders defense gave up zero points in the second quarter to earn a 20-12 halftime lead.
Whitehorse continued to pull away from the longhorns leading 27-16 after three quarters. The Raiders saw their best offensive output in the fourth quarter to earn the 41-22 win.
The next day the lady Raiders went to Wendover for a classic matchup which saw Whitehorse fall in double-overtime.
Whitehorse built a 11-9 lead after one quarter and extended the lead 25-17 at halftime.
The Wildcats had an explosive offensive output in the third quarter and took the lead from Whitehorse 33-30. At the end of the third quarter the teams were all tied up 48-48.
Whitehorse and Wendover both scored eight points in the first overtime period making the count 56-56 at the end of the first overtime. Wendover pulled away at home in double-overtime scoring eight points while Whitehorse put up four in the second overtime period to make the final score favor Wendover 64-60.
The Raiders open up the season with a 1-1 record and will have some time off before their next game. Whitehorse girls play next on Tuesday December 2nd at Rock Point, Arizona.
In other Region 19 girls basketball the Monticello Buckaroos opened the season with a 56-15 loss at home to Wayne.
The Badgers jumped to a 15-6 lead after one quarter pushing the lead to 39-11 at halftime. The score was 54-14 after three quarters with the Bucks holding Wayne to just two points in the fourth quarter to make the final score 56-15. The Monticello girls played in Tabiona on November 25 after the San Juan Record print deadline. They’ll next play at the Ouray/Ridgeway tournament in the first weekend of December.
