Whitehorse, Monument Valley cross country teams compete in Page, AZ

The Whitehorse High School cross country boys and girls got a couple strong performances at the Lake Powell Invitational in Page, AZ on Saturday, October 4.
Neither team had enough runners to register a team score, but in the boys race senior Ethan Begay ran an 18:04.12 to finish in sixth place overall. It was Begay’s fastest time in a 5,000-meter race this season.
Also finishing the race for the Raider boys was freshman Tyler Duane, in 91st place with a run of 25:20.56.
Senior Josiah Gipe finished in 39th place for the Monument Valley boys team with his run of 20:11.25. He was the only Cougar competing in the boys race.
Two Monument Valley runners competed in the girls race. Sophomore Summer Atene led the way with a 15th-place overall finish in 23:51.46.
Atene was just 25 seconds off the pace of the 5,000-meter personal best she set in Moab on September 24. Sophomore KeriAnna Fatt came across the line in 76th overall with her run of 32:59.07.
All three of the Whitehorse girls who ran in the Lake Powell Invite set new personal records. Sophomores Maria Yellowman and Laylah Benally finished together in 18th and 19th overall with runs of 23:58.55 and 23:59.29 respectively.
Freshman Mikey Little crossed the line in 61st for the Lady Raiders with a nice run of 29:33.19.
The Whitehorse and Monument Valley cross country teams are both heading to Mancos, CO this Saturday, October 11 to compete in the annual Chicken Creek Challenge.
