Whitehorse, Monument Valley teams conquer the Mancos mud

The Whitehorse and Monument Valley cross country teams descended on Chicken Creek Cross Country Course in Mancos, CO this past Saturday October 9 with only a handful of runners.

Despite a tough battle against an extremely muddy course, both teams had excellent races. On the girls side for Whitehorse, Heidi Thomas was first across the line and fought hard for her top ten finish.

Thomas ended up finishing in ninth place with a time of 25:00. She has persevered throughout the season and faced the difficult task of running most of the races this season as the only female runner for the Raiders.

In the boys race Whitehorse’s Weston Manygoats, a consistent top-ten finisher this season, joined Thomas in the top ten with a sixth-place finish and a 19:30 time. He was joined in the top 20 by his teammate, Keeyah Begay who finished 15th with a time of 21:04.

Rounding out the Whitehorse varsity runners was Robryan Tapaha in 50th with a time of 27:46.

On the Monument Valley side, Lillianna Fatt was the first girl to cross the finish line. She came home 19th with a time of 26:38. Her teammate, Dayheona Yazzie finished shortly thereafter in 39th with a 30:47.

For the Cougar boys, Jeremiah Singer crossed the finish line with a time of 24:00 in 15th. Singer, like Whitehorse runner Heidi Thomas, has run most of the races this season as the sole male member of the Monument Valley team.
