Whitehorse volleyball team looks to reestablish momentum at state

The Whitehorse High School volleyball team concluded their regular season with five games in just eight days. They defeated Rough Rock, AZ and Escalante, but fell to Wayne, Monticello, and Monument Valley.
Against Rough Rock on Tuesday, October 7 the Lady Raiders defeated the Lady Sun Devils in straight sets 25-10, 25-20, and 25-7.
Keira Chee led the offense with six kills. Kaleigh Chee and Keira Little got three kills apiece, and Katiana Ben registered two.
Kaleigh Chee served up a very impressive 12 aces in the win while Malia Sam got four, Katiana Ben got three, Kaleigha Nakai served two, and Keira Chee got one.
On the next night Whitehorse traveled to Escalante where they defeated the Lady Moquis in four sets 25-16, 31-33, 25-13, and 25-16.
Keira Chee collected 14 kills to lead the offensive attack. Kaleigh Chee got a team-high four aces and also had two blocks in the victory.
Keira Chee assisted in eight Lady Raider points and also had two digs in the win.
In their third game in as many days Whitehorse closed out a very busy week on Thursday, October 9 against the Wayne Badgers in Bicknell. Unfortunately for the Lady Raiders it was a straight-sets loss.
They suffered another 3-0 loss to start the past week on Tuesday, October 14 against Monticello. Then on Wednesday, October 15 they closed out the regular season with their second Battle of the Drum matchup on the road against Monument Valley.
Whitehorse won the third set 25-18 to avoid a third straight sweep, but were unable to hold that momentum, falling to the Lady Cougars in four sets.
The Lady Raiders finished the regular season with an 11-10 overall record and enter the 1A Utah State Tournament as the #14 seed.
They open the tournament on Wednesday, October 22 against local Region 19 rival #19 Green River in Montezuma Creek.
If they defeat the Lady Pirates, it’s on to Utah Valley University for the remaining rounds of the tournament Friday and Saturday, October 24-25.
They would face a tough St. Joseph team in the second round. The Lady Jayhawks are ranked second with a 19-9 overall record.
