My name is Stephen Tryon, and I want you to elect me as your Congressman in Utah’s 3rd Congressional District. 
I am a career citizen, a Christian, a veteran with a Bronze Star medal for valor in combat, a successful business executive, a gun-owner, an author, and a proud Democrat.  I am the Democrat running against Jason Chaffetz. 
I believe in our Constitution. The Constitution creates a framework for government that rests on individual dignity—a republic where individuals are supposed to be free to build the best life they can, consistent with the same freedom for all others.  We are, all of us, guaranteed equal protection of the law.  If we work hard, and play by the rules, we are supposed to be able to raise a family, enjoy a good quality of life, and a comfortable retirement.  That is the American Dream. 
The right to vote is the basic right of every American citizen.   In the US District Court for the District of Utah earlier this year, Judge Robert Shelby ruled that San Juan County has violated the Constitution and the Voting Rights Act for decades by using voting districts that repress Native American representation in the county’s elected offices.  
That ruling states, “Because Navajo Nation has successfully shown that the County had race-based motives in maintaining the boundaries of District Three,… the court concludes that District Three is unconstitutional under the Equal Protection Clause and the boundary lines for the San Juan County Commission Districts must be redrawn.”  
In my opinion, both Governor Herbert and Representative Chaffetz have violated their oaths to support and defend the Constitution of the United States by allowing the most recent redistricting to persist since 2011, and, inexcusably, to persist from the date of the court ruling in February of this year through the coming election in November.
I strongly oppose the so-called Public Lands Initiative because I believe it is the product of the same crony politics that enabled the unconstitutional San Juan County Commission districting process.  I support broad protection for the natural and cultural treasures of the Bears Ears region, consistent with full freedoms for Native Americans to hunt, gather, and conduct other traditional activities. 
It is my duty to offer my services as US Representative for the people of the 3rd district.  With degrees from West Point and Stanford, a Senate fellowship, and a track record of success in government and in business, I am ready to start solving problems and stop blaming others. 
I will work to fix social security in a manner that preserves the full value of current benefits, and I will lead the way to balanced budgets by fighting waste and ensuring the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share of taxes.
