Town meeting will discuss findings of Monticello Cancer Study
The Utah Department of Health (UDOH) will present the findings of a study evaluating the rate of cancer incidence in Monticello. The meeting is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 12 at the Monticello High School auditorium.
From 1943 through 1960, a uranium and vanadium processing mill operated just southeast of Monticello.
In 2005, the Southeastern Utah District Health Department asked the UDOH to prepare a health consultation report (study) in response to concerns expressed by citizens regarding the potential for increased cancer risk due to past exposure to the mill site. The study is now complete and the UDOH will present its findings during a town meeting.
