Triathlon and Abajo Winter Festival set for running this weekend

It’s winter: that frigid time of the year when your breath turns to smoke and your fingers bend with difficulty. But even though the season provides a cruel breeze and icy roads, it is not completely useless.
On February 25 and 26, 2011, the Abajo Winter Festival returns to conquer the negative aspects of winter with fun and recreation for all.
The second annual Winter Festival is teamed, for the first time, with the Blue Mountain Triathlon, which will take place on Saturday morning.
The Monticello Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to come to the Loyd’s Lake Pavilion. Winter games will run from Noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, and will be sponsored by Data-in-Formation Computer Systems.
Games include ice-skating, broomball, ice fishing, curling, ice shuffleboard, and more. Food and prizes will also be offered during the festival with the Chamber of Commerce, Monticello Home & Auto, Monticello Mercantile, San Juan Pharmacy, and Roadway Inn set to sponsor.
On Saturday, after the triathlon, the party continues with more games and a Chili Cook-off contest at 3 p.m. The cook-off will be sponsored by San Juan Pest Management; let’s hope they don’t mix business with chili. Entry forms can be obtained at the Welcome Center Chamber Office.
As the festival’s weekend approaches, Jack Frost could be on vacation. Games and events are likely to change depending on the weather.
