Triathlon marks 25 years

Triathletes have been testing themselves for 25 years in Monticello in the only triathlon in the nation that includes cross country skiing.

This year, the 25th anniversary of the Blue Mountain Triathlon was held in a new location, but with a familiar feel and outcome.

The annual race featured all three legs of the race beginning and ending at the Hideout Golf Club in Monticello.

Overall winner is Michael Nordberg of Salt Lake City, UT who covered the course in 1:41. Second overall is Colton Anderson of Durango, CO (1:42), followed by Rick Callies of Bayfield, CO (1:46)

Top female finisher is Beth McMaster of Mapleton, UT in 2:02. Second is Melanie Jones of Salt Lake City, UT (2:37). Third place female is local product Marilyn Redd of Salt Lake City, UT (2:38).

The top team is headed by Tom Rice of Cortez, CO finishing in 2:00. A total of 35 racers competed as soloists.

A number of local residents competed in teams, including the first place mixed team of Brian Mattox, Tim McArthur and Ruth Skousen (2:14:10).

The second place mixed team includes Andy Butler, Jason Livingston, and Laura Butler (2:14:17). and the third place team includes Marion Rockwood, Lauren Rockwood, and Randy Kuhni (2:27). Finishing second in the female teams are Elisa Rogers, Linda Rogers and Kara Rogers (2:29).

Other local residents who raced include Layne Barney, Krista Chadwick, Matt Briggs, Dustin Jones, Kirk Hazelton, Chance Allred, Darin Allred, Jen Allred, and Mark Mitchell.
