Upward Bound grant
The TRIO Upward Bound Program has received another five-year grant from the Department of Education.
Upward Bound serves 104 high school participants in the San Juan School District and Red Mesa High School. The goal of the program is to increase the rate of Upward Bound participants to complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of higher education.
Upward Bound provides academic instruction in mathematics, laboratory sciences, composition, literature, and foreign languages.
Tutoring, counseling, mentoring, cultural enrichment, work-study programs, education, and counseling services are designed to improve financial and economic literacy of students.
Programs are specially designed for students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in postsecondary education.
“Upward Bound goals are the same across the U.S., but we live in a unique area, “said Teresa Frazier, Upward Bound Director. “It is important for a grant to be specifically tailored for our participants.”
“We appreciate the support from USU Blanding campus and Kristian Olsen, Associate Vice President. Our UB staff are excited to continue to work with the tremendous youth in our communities.”
