Runner with local ties qualifies for the 2024 Paris Olympics

Conner Mantz, a world-class distance runner with ties to San Juan County, punched his ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympic Summer Games over the weekend.
Mantz earned first place at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Marathon Trials held in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, February 3.
Mantz finished the marathon with a time of 2 hours, nine minutes and six seconds. Mantz finished one second in front of training partner Clayton Young. The two friends ran together in college at Brigham Young University.
Mantz attended Sky View High School in Smithfield UT, before becoming a two time NCAA champion running for BYU.
Mantz was just the third American – and the first runner from BYU – to win back-to-back national championships in the cross country event.
Conner is the grandson of Paul Mantz of Monticello and the late Lorraine Peterson of Provo. His parents are Robert and Joana Mantz of Smithfield, UT.
Conner’s father Robert is a 1986 graduate of San Juan High School.
The 2024 Olympic Marathon will be in Paris, France on August 10.
